Whoopi Goldberg Lays Into Trump Supporters for Surrounding Biden Bus: It’s “Like a Scene Out of ‘Mississippi Burning'”

With just one day to go before the presidential election, the women of The View are making their voices heard. On Monday morning, the co-hosts unloaded on a group of Trump supporters who surrounded a Biden campaign bus on a Texas highway over the weekend. The panel agreed that the “Trump Train” incident was extremely “dangerous,” and moderator Whoopi Goldberg even went so far as to compare to the violence enacted against civil rights workers in the 1950s and ’60s. “[It] looked a lot like a scene out of Mississippi Burning,” she said. “It was really freaky to see.”

This morning, The View began its election week coverage with a Hot Topics segment about caravans of Trump voters that spent the past few days shutting down highways across the country. The caravans “held up traffic, blocked bridges, and — in really doing crazy things — surrounded a Joe Biden campaign bus in Texas,” explained Goldberg. “That is probably one of the most dangerous things you can do.”

“Buses can’t stop on a dime. Be happy that you drivers didn’t get hit when you surrounded this bus,” she continued. “You could’ve caused all kinds of havoc. You could’ve gotten yourself killed.”

Goldberg went on to say that the dangerous actions taken by Trump supporters in Texas “have given [her] a flashback” to 1964, when racists abducted and murdered civil rights workers James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner in Mississippi. “When they talk about, ‘Oh, we think there’s going to be some issues happening,’” said the longtime moderator, as photos of the three men flashed on screen. “Who do they think is going to start this? I haven’t seen any Biden flags trapping anybody. I haven’t seen any of that. Am I crazy, you guys? When you saw this caravan, did it remind you of a ’50s thing as well?”

All four of Goldberg’s co-hosts agreed, but it was Sunny Hostin who offered to harshest condemnation of “Trump Train” participants. “These were heavily armed people brandishing weapons in their trucks. They outnumbered police officers 50-1,” she said. “Imagine the outrage from the Trump administration had this been a Black Lives Matter protest. Imagine the difference in the reaction.”

“Instead, he calls the Black Lives Matter organization ‘terrorists,’ but these people are ‘patriots,’ she said, referencing a series of tweets Trump has posted about the incident. “Do you want four more years of this? We are on the eve of an election. Do you want four more years of bigotry, racism, and hatred approved by the administration, approved by the president of the United States?”

“That is what has been happening over the past four years,” concluded Hostin. “This is in direct relation to the country having elected a Black president. That is what this is about. Pure and simple. It is about racism, hatred, and bigotry.”
