It’s probably not the “dough” most adults need, but Hasbro is betting on their wanting to return to the joys of childhood.
The toymaker’s new line of Play-Doh with “Grown Up Scents” aims to entice elders with the mature aromas of “Overpriced Latte” or “Mom Jeans,” a fragrance vaguely described as that of “clean denim.”
Play-Doh general manager Leena Vadaketh told Huffington Post that the scents should evoke the pleasures of adulthood, such as the floral ambiance of a “Spa Day” or that strong smell of suburban success — freshly cut grass, for the “Lord of the Lawn” in your life. Doh cups wafting the odor of smoked meat, for the “Grill King,” and “Dad Sneakers” — which smell like rubber and, thankfully, not sweaty feet — round out the six-pack.
They’re also for “anyone who loves a good laugh,” Vadaketh added.
However, big kids will have to wait as the new line of modeling putty is currently sold out on Amazon.
Earlier this year, the Chinese toymaker announced that sales of Play-Doh, along with the game of Monopoly, have soared during the coronavirus pandemic as parents and their children are spending a majority of their time together indoors. Still, forecasters predicted a 20% to 25% decline overall for 2020 amid a global recession caused by the health crisis.
