Mel Gibson’s ‘Fatman’ Trailer Teases A Dark Santa Claus

5

Mel Gibson is here to prove that Santa Claus isn’t so jolly after all. In the trailer for his upcoming holiday thriller Fatman, Gibson plays the bearded giant himself. Santa, who’s known as Chris Cringle in the film, has lost his way after a perilous encounter with some kids with guns — he questions if it’s time to hang up the red coat.

On top of his recent gunshot injuries, Chris has some issues with his business. He’s forced to make a deal with the U.S. Military, who aim to procure his services. Although the trailer doesn’t mention the exact details of this partnership, it appears the Military could be looking for Santa’s assistance in the flying sled department.

Chris has to watch his back — he’s also being hunted. After young Billy Wenan (Chance Hurstfield) receives coal for Christmas, he becomes infatuated with getting vengeance against Santa Claus. Instead of trying to get on next year’s good list, Billy hires the legendary assassin Skinny Man (Walton Goggins) to kill Santa. More and more kids are making naughty decisions, Chris laments in the trailer. It’s up to Santa to teach them a lesson.

Chris and Skinny Man battle it out with high-tech weapons amidst freezing flurries. Skinny Man is after Chris’s head, but Santa won’t go down without a fight. With a herd of elves and soldiers by his side, Chris sets out to defeat the hitman that’s after him. Fatman’s trailer features shiny guns, huge explosions, and wild vehicles — we’ve never seen Christmas like this before.

Fatman is written and directed by The Nelms Brothers — Eshom and Ian Nelms — who have previously created films like Waffle Street, Night of the Dog, and Lost on Purpose. Alongside Gibson and Goggins, the film also stars Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Shaun Benson, Deborah Grover, and Paulino Nunes.

The film will hit select theaters on Nov. 13, and will head to VOD Nov. 17. You can check out the Fatman trailer by scrolling up and watching the video above.
