2020 election: Results from key swing state North Carolina will be delayed

Election results from North Carolina — a key swing state in the 2020 presidential election — will be delayed Tuesday night, according to a report.

The North Carolina State Board of Elections decided to extend voting past 7:30 p.m. at a polling place where problems were reported Tuesday morning, CNN said.

As a result, the board won’t begin releasing results until 8:15 p.m., CNN said.

In addition to being a battleground for President Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden, the Tar Heel State features a closely watched race between first-term US Sen. Thom Tillis (R-North Carolina) and Cal Cunningham, a former state senator.

The contest — which has become the most expensive in US history — could help decide whether Republicans retain control of the US Senate.

Cunningham is favored by 2.6 percentage points, according to the Real Clear Politics polling average, although his lead has shrunk considerably amid revelations of his extramarital sexting scandal.
